Rajat Patidar has asked the BCCI not to consider him for selection in the 50-over format for the time being, putting his immediate ODI commitments on hold as he deals with ongoing fitness concerns. The decision has also forced him out of the India A squad for the upcoming ACC Men’s Rising Stars Asia Cup in Doha.
The BCCI confirmed the development in an update on Sunday, November 8, with the batter communicating his decision to the board.
“Rajat Patidar has communicated to the BCCI that he should not be considered for selection in the 50-over format as he manages his existing injuries,” the board said in its statement.
Ayush Badoni has been brought into the 15-member squad in Patidar’s place, while Rinku Singh has been elevated to vice-captain. Tilak Varma will continue to lead the side at the tournament, which will be held in Qatar from November 19 to 29.
Patidar’s latest decision comes against the backdrop of a series of injury setbacks in recent seasons. A left-knee problem also disrupted his domestic campaign in October 2025, while he had sustained a finger injury during IPL 2025. The BCCI has not specified which injuries he is currently managing or provided a recovery timeline.
