In a shocking incident in Paldi Kalan village, Nagaur, a 75-year-old woman was found dead, her mutilated body packed in a plastic sack and dumped in the bushes.

According to the police, the woman identified as Nathi Devi Bawri, stepped out of her home, on the morning of March 16 to arrange fodder for her animals. Her family said she was wearing gold and silver jewellery worth nearly Rs 7 lakh.

By evening when she didn’t return, her family began searching the village and nearby fields. When there was still no sign of her through the night, concern grew.

The next day, March 17, villagers spotted a plastic sack lying in the bushes near Pachranda village. Upon opening it, they discovered the mutilated body of an elderly woman. The head and feet were missing, and all the jewellery had been removed. Police later confirmed that her throat and legs had been severed, India Today reported.

The condition of the body suggested an attempt to prevent identification. It appeared that the remains had been cut into pieces, packed into sacks, and dumped in a deserted area.

Upon receiving the information, police teams, under Nagaur SP Roshan Meena, arrived at the scene and began investigating. Forensic experts, dog squads, and drone units were deployed.

A slipper found near the site became one of the first clues, leading investigators to a local suspect. During the search, bloodstains were found in a village house. Forensic tests confirmed the murder had taken place there.

Investigators also analysed call records and location data from more than 300 mobile numbers to trace movements around the time the woman went missing.

On March 20, police arrested 38-year-old Mukesh Bharti, a neighbour of the victim. Stolen jewellery and the suspected weapon—either an axe or an iron rod—were recovered.

According to the police, Nathi Devi had gone to Mukesh Bharti’s house for fodder. He allegedly attacked and killed her, then cut the body into pieces. He packed the remains into three sacks and transported them in his Wagon R before dumping them at different locations.

Authorities are investigating whether anyone else was involved. There are also reports of a possible land dispute over around 30 bigha, although robbery is considered the primary motive.

At the victim’s home, the family is struggling to cope with the tragedy. Many rely on daily wage work.

They held a protest and refused to perform the last rites until all body parts were recovered. Some remains were later found, and the rituals were completed. A meeting with public representatives was also held in Degana.
