A Punjab Police team chasing drug smugglers in Rajasthan landed in a controversy after the personnel in plain clothes stopped a Haryana vehicle in a crowded market in Jaisalmer and pointed a pistol on the occupants. The tourist and his car were later released after identity verification.
A video of the incident captured by a bystander went viral on social media.
The footage shows crowds gathering around the Punjab Police vehicles and demanding to know what the matter was. A woman police officer is also seen in the visuals, sitting in a car with Mohali registration number.

It has been learnt that the police acted on operational information about the criminal’s location. During the search, they stopped the car to check its occupants and confirm identities. However, after the interrogation, the tourist and the car were released according to police rules.
According to eyewitnesses, the sudden presence of armed personnel caused chaos in the market. The traffic situation also got disrupted with several commuters stuck in the jam.
