With the beginning of March, heat has gained momentum in most parts of the country. The mercury has crossed 35°C in many states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Punjab and Uttarakhand.
In Delhi, a 50-year record was broken in the first week of March itself and the maximum temperature reached 35.7°C. The mercury has reached 36.2 degrees in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The temperature was recorded at 38°C in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
The temperature in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, was 37.8°C. Heat wave occurred in Mandi, Solan, Dharamshala and Bhuntar of Himachal Pradesh.
The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert in the plains of Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and many areas of Rajasthan. There is a possibility of light rain in West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
Due to the impact of Western Disturbance, there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between March 8 and 12. At present, the weather in the plain states is likely to remain dry and the heat will increase.

When is it considered a heatwave?
According to the Meteorological Department, a heatwave is considered when the temperature in the plains reaches 40 degrees or more. If the temperature is recorded 4 to 6 degrees more than the normal temperature. In such a situation, people’s health can also be affected and the risk of heat stroke increases.
Weather condition for next 2 days-
- March 9- There is a possibility of light rain in Odisha, Sikkim, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh. There is a possibility of rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
- March 10- Light rain and lightning is likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mamzoram and Tripura and over Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
