The Punjab government has constituted a seven-member Coordination Committee following directions from Sri Akal Takht Sahib to facilitate regular coordination with the committee formed by the Sikh body on matters related to the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026.
The newly formed panel will coordinate with the Sri Akal Takht Sahib-appointed committee on issues concerning the Act and place its recommendations and reports on significant matters before the Punjab government for further consideration.
The committee includes former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, Damdami Taksal chief Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa, and Sant Baba Sewa Singh of Rampur Khera.
Retired Justice Jaspal Singh and retired Justice Gurbir Singh are also members of the panel. The remaining members are former IPS officer and former Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) Chairman Jatinder Singh Aulakh and Law Officer Preet Inder Paul Singh.
The Coordination Committee was formally constituted by the Punjab government’s Department of Home Affairs and Justice through an order issued on September 16, 2026.
The panel will act as a coordination mechanism between the state government and the committee constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, with its recommendations and reports to be considered by the government on key matters concerning the amended Act.
