The leader of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, actor-politician Vijay, is set to address the public near the Vijayamangalam toll gate in Erode district on December 18. This public meeting is being viewed as highly significant in the current political landscape.

Following the tragic incident in Karur, stringent regulations are being enforced for organising roadshows. In line with these measures, extensive security arrangements have been made for Vijay’s public meeting in Erode. As many as 40 CCTV cameras have been installed at the venue. A comprehensive medical team comprising 72 doctors and 120 nurses will be on standby, supported by 40 walkie-talkies for coordination and 24 ambulances to handle emergencies.

To ensure adequate drinking water, 20 Sintex tanks have been filled, and bottled water will be distributed to all attendees. Three fire tenders will be deployed for safety, while parking facilities have been arranged across 60 acres. Officials stated that the event has been organised with an unprecedented level of security in Tamil Nadu and is expected to serve as a model for similar gatherings elsewhere.

Erode holds historical importance as the birthplace of Periyar, a key figure in the Dravidian movement. Vijay has repeatedly accused parties such as the DMK of invoking Periyar’s ideology only during election campaigns. Notably, the first fan club of actor Vijay was also formed in Erode district. It is also significant that Sengottaiyan, who left the AIADMK and joined the Dravidian movement, was elected as an MLA from the Gobichettipalayam constituency. In western Tamil Nadu, where national parties like the Congress traditionally have a stronger presence, Vijay’s outreach is therefore seen as particularly important.

As a precautionary measure, a private school near the Vijayamangalam toll booth has declared a holiday. The half-yearly examination scheduled for December 18 has been postponed and will now be held on December 26.
