Apple on Thursday increased the prices of its iPad and MacBook by $ 300 i.e. Rs 28,383. Whereas in India their prices have increased by up to Rs 1 lakh.
The company says that due to the construction of data centers for the AI industry, the cost of memory and storage chips is continuously increasing, due to which it is no longer possible to protect customers from this increased cost.
Which products became expensive due to price increase
This decision will not affect Apple’s best-selling product, the iPhone. The starting price of the company’s lowest priced laptop ‘Neo’ will increase from $599 to $699 just a few months after its launch.
Apart from this, the price of MacBook Air with 512 gigabytes has increased by $ 200, while the price of MacBook Pro with 1 terabyte storage will increase by $ 300.
Apple has also increased the prices of both versions of its HomePod smart speaker and Apple TV set-top box. After this announcement, Apple’s shares fell by about 5%, while the shares of its competitor company Dell fell by more than 8%.
Chip makers gave priority to companies like Nvidia
Memory manufacturers like Micron have prioritized orders from AI chipmakers like Nvidia in the past few months. This step has brought record profits to memory manufacturers, but its supply is very less for electronics companies. Due to less supply, companies are now being forced to increase the prices of their products.
According to experts, Apple, the world’s most valuable consumer electronics company, has not been able to escape this crisis despite having excellent relations with its suppliers. However, due to strong ties, Apple has got some relief, because its competitors have had to increase the prices even more.

There is a possibility of iPhone prices increasing in the next phase
Market analysts believe that iPhone could be next. Nabila Popal, senior research director of research firm IDC, said that iPhone is not untouched by this increase, its prices are also going to increase soon.
It was a very strategic move for Apple to announce the price increase just before the iPhone’s fall launch, so that the headlines at the launch would focus on the value of the new phone rather than the price increase.
What is the full background of Ram-ageddon?
Dynamic random access memory (DRAM) prices used in modern tech gadgets have seen a rise of up to 98% in the first quarter of 2026. According to industry tracker Trendforce, its prices are expected to rise by 58% to 63% in the current quarter as well. Experts are calling this situation “Ram-Ageddon”.
The crisis has arisen due to the boom in AI data center development, where companies like Nvidia are striking long-term deals with memory manufacturers. Micron said Wednesday it has locked in long-term agreements worth $22 billion from customers seeking to secure its memory supply.
Impact on the future of gadgets market
This increase in cost is expected to have a direct impact on the sales of the device this year.
