According to the police, Balamurugan suspected that Sri Priya was in a relationship with another person.
The incident took place at around 5pm near the Diwanman crematorium in Vasai West, under the jurisdiction of Manickpur Police Station. The gas affected about 10-15 people in the vicinity.
A man allegedly killed his wife over the suspicion of an extramarital relationship in Coimbatore and then posted a chilling selfie with her body.
The victim has been identified as Sri Priya. She was married to accused, Balamurugan from Tirunelveli, and the couple had three children. For personal reasons, Sri Priya was living in a women’s hostel in Coimbatore and working there, away from her husband.
According to the police, Balamurugan suspected that Sri Priya was in a relationship with another person. On the day of the incident, he went to the hostel where she was staying and asked her to come with him, India Today reported.
When she refused, a heated argument ensued. In the midst of the confrontation, Balamurugan allegedly pulled out a concealed sickle and attacked her, killing her on the spot.
After the murder, the accused reportedly sat next to the body until the police arrived. In a chilling act, he allegedly took a selfie with Sri Priya’s body lying in a pool of blood and posted it as his status, along with the caption, “The price of betrayal is death.”
Rathnapuri Police later arrested Balamurugan and have begun an investigation into the case.
