India sharply criticised Canadian media reports on Hardeep Nijjar’s case as “baseless” and “politically motivated and called for credible law enforcement processes.

India on Monday categorically rejected “baseless” allegations by the Canadian press on New Delhi’s involvement in the murder of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, calling them “politically motivated” and unsupported by credible evidence.
India’s sharp response came after Canadian reports claimed to have evidence linking India’s involvement in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023 in British Columbia. These reports surfaced while Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was on his first visit to India, which is widely seen as part of an effort to repair bilateral ties.
“India categorically rejects allegations of involvement in transnational violence or organised crime. These claims are baseless, politically motivated and unsupported by credible evidence despite repeated requests. India believes that concerns of this nature must be addressed through credible law enforcement and judicial processes, not through public or politicised narratives,” P Kumaran, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, said during a press briefing.
