Demonstrations started in POK from 29 September, which lasted till October 4.
The 5 -day violent protests in Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK) ended on Saturday. An agreement was reached between the Government of Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC).
The government has accepted 21 out of 38 demands of protesters, after which all protests were announced to stop. These demonstrations killed 10 people, while more than 100 were injured.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif sent a delegation to Muzaffarabad, the capital of POK, on Wednesday when the situation worsened. It also included former Prime Minister Raza Parvez Ashraf.
The Government of Pakistan formed a committee to talk to the protesters. It consisted of former Prime Minister Raza Parvez Ashraf.
The main things of the agreement-
- Cabinet will be small: There will no longer be more than 20 ministers in Pok’s government.
- Departments merger: Some government departments will be reduced by mixing.
- Tunnels in Neelam Valley: The study for two new tunnels will begin.
- Airport in Mirpur: Plan to build international airport.
- Education boards will increase: School boards will be created so that education is better.
- MRI-C Machines: MRI and CT scan machines will be installed in every district hospital.
- Health Card: Everyone will get a health card in 15 days.
- Money for electricity: 10 billion Pakistani rupees will be given to improve the power system.
Monitoring committee will be formed to implement agreement
The government will form a monitoring committee to implement the agreement. Along with this, the culprits of violence will be prosecuted under the anti -terrorism law and will be judged.
Families of protesters killed in the agreement have been promised as compensation as government employees and jobs to a member. The injured will get financial help.
The Pakistani army fired at unarmed protesters, killing 10 people.
3 days procession will be taken out for those killed
The protesters described it as a victory of peace and said that they will take out a procession in memory of those killed for the next three days. At the same time, the Government of Pakistan said that all roads have opened and peace is restored.
These demonstrations started on 29 September on the appeal of JKJAAC. He accused the protesting government of ignoring fundamental rights and not being able to control inflation.
There were many demonstrations in POK before
POK has also had protests against the army and the government many times before. In May last year, people went on strike for cheap flour and electricity. People say that Mangala Dam present in Pok produces electricity, yet they do not get cheap electricity.
Similarly, in 2023, people came out on the streets against increasing electricity prices and removal of wheat subsidy. In 2022, people blocked roads against a government law and raised slogans of independence.
