PM Modi Told Putin India Ready To Do ‘Whatever Is Feasible’ To End Ukraine War: Vikram Misri

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin that India is ready to do “whatever is feasible and necessary” to help move the Ukraine conflict towards an end.

Misri was briefing reporters on Modi’s meetings with Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

India Backs Peace Efforts

Elaborating on PM Modi’s call to move “from endless war to an end to the war”, Misri said India has consistently supported peace initiatives put forward by stakeholders in the conflict.

“Prime Minister also shared with President Putin our willingness which we have expressed on several occasions,” Misri said.

“We have thus far in any case supported each and every one of the initiatives that has been advanced by any of the stakeholders involved in this conflict.”

The Foreign Secretary said PM Modi had reiterated India’s readiness to act where possible.

“Prime Minister reiterated to President Putin his readiness, India’s readiness to do whatever is feasible, is necessary at our end to move this conflict towards a conclusion because it is exacting a very heavy toll on the global community at large,” Misri said.

During their meeting earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Modi told Putin that “every day spent on war pushes humanity backwards” and called for moving from “endless war towards the end of war”.

PM Modi also reiterated India’s position that dialogue and diplomacy are central to resolving conflicts.
