PM Modi condoled the deaths of 15 Indian tourists after a speedboat capsized near Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condoled the deaths of 15 Indian tourists in the Vietnam boat mishap, assuring that Indian officials are providing all possible assistance and are in close contact with the Vietnamese authorities.
“Extremely saddened to learn about the tragic news of a boat accident involving Indian nationals near Phu Quoc, Vietnam,” the Prime Minister said on X.
“My sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. My prayers for the early recovery of the injured survivors. Our Embassy and Consulate are providing all possible assistance. Our officials are also in close contact with the Vietnamese authorities,” he added.

His remarks came after a boat carrying 36 passengers – 32 Indian tourists and four crew members – overturned 400 metres from shore while travelling from Hon May Rut Island. Local authorities rescued 21 people from the overturned boat, while 15 Indian tourists – two women and 13 men – were confirmed dead.
The Indian embassy in Vietnam confirmed the incident, saying it had established emergency response centres in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to assist affected families.
“In a tragic incident, a boat carrying several Indian tourists has capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam a few hours ago. Exact details of the incident are being ascertained as search and rescue operations by local authorities are ongoing,” it said on X.

Footage on Vietnamese TV showed rough seas and strong winds as rescue teams threw lifebuoys to people in the water. Jet skis ferried survivors back to shore while people on the beach provided first aid to victims.
According to reports, the tourists were employees of a private mobile phone company taking part in an annual meeting.
