Incidents that appear minor at first glance often reveal deeper social and safety concerns when examined closely. What may begin as a routine police complaint can sometimes expose unsettling behavioural patterns, raising questions about privacy, security, and the everyday vulnerabilities people overlook. One such case from Bengaluru has now drawn attention for precisely these reasons.
Police recently arrested a man following complaints from residents of Hebbagodi in Bengaluru who had been reporting the repeated disappearance of women’s innerwear from their homes. Initially dismissed by many as accidental loss or routine theft, the issue gained seriousness when the pattern continued over several days, prompting residents to approach the police.
Accused Allegedly Targeted Homes During Odd Hours
According to officials, the accused had allegedly been targeting houses where women’s clothes were left out to dry, particularly during early morning and late evening hours. Locals became suspicious after noticing a man frequently loitering in the area without any clear purpose. Based on descriptions provided by residents, police traced and detained the suspect for questioning.
A search conducted during the investigation led to the recovery of several women’s undergarments from the accused’s possession. While the theft itself raised concern, police said the case took a more disturbing turn when they examined the accused’s mobile phone as part of standard procedure.
Mobile Phone Evidence Shocks Investigators
Investigators reportedly found photos and videos linked to the stolen items stored on the device. The accused has been identified as 23-year old Amal from Kerala. Police sources described that he not just stole the undergarments of women, but also took pictures and videos of him wearing them. The material allegedly documented the accused’s actions, reinforcing suspicions that the thefts had been ongoing for some time.
During questioning, the accused is believed to have admitted to stealing the undergarments, though police have not disclosed detailed statements, citing the sensitive nature of the case and the need to protect the privacy of affected individuals.
Officers are now examining whether similar complaints from nearby areas could be linked to the same person. Authorities are also considering whether additional charges related to obscenity, harassment, or violation of privacy may be applicable.
The accused remains in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities have also indicated that a psychological assessment may be considered as part of the probe. Meanwhile, police have assured residents that additional patrolling will be carried out in the area to restore confidence and prevent similar incidents in the future.
