Parliament Monsoon Session 2026 Live Updates: The Parliament is set to debate on Tuesday, July 28, a stringent “anti-paper leak” bill that hikes fines and punishment for those convicted of examination paper leaks. On Monday, the bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha amid an uproar by the opposition parties that sought to question the government on police violence against students involved in protests over paper leaks.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill that paves the way for more stringent punishment, hikes the minimum jail term and the quantum of fines, along with setting up of fast-track courts. However, the ruling party couldn’t get the legislation pass through the lower house amid the continued sloganeering.
The Centre’s push for anti-paper leak bill stems from the recent widespread students’ protest –– spearheaded by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) –– over the May 3 NEET-UG paper leak. The demonstrations culminated Saturday with the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, which was a key demand put forth by the CJP.
