What is the dispute between Pakistan and Afghanistan?

There have been several military confrontations between Pakistan and Afghanistan since major border clashes in October last year. A major cause of controversy is Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Pakistan alleges that the Taliban administration of Afghanistan gives shelter to TTP and its fighters plan and carry out cross-border attacks from Afghan soil. However, Kabul rejects these allegations.

TTP is a close ally of the Afghan Taliban and both support each other. Angered by Pakistan’s support for America after the American attack on Afghanistan in 2001, TTP started fighting against the Pakistani government.

The organization considers the Government of Pakistan to be against Islam. After the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021, Pakistan also carried out attacks in Afghanistan targeting TTP.

9 including children died in Pakistan’s airstrike

Pakistan conducted airstrike in Afghanistan on 1 October. 9 people died and 11 were injured in these attacks. Women and children were also among the dead.

Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid had claimed that 3 houses were destroyed in these attacks and this is a violation of international rules.

However, Pakistan had said that it had targeted two terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan. At least 22 fighters were killed in this.
