OpenAI on Tuesday (October 21) launched its new AI-powered web browser ‘ChatGPT Atlas’. After this launch, there was a huge fall in the shares of Google’s parent company Alphabet. Due to which Google’s market value decreased by 150 billion dollars i.e. 13.15 lakh crore rupees in a single day.

Alphabet shares closed at $251.34, down 2.21%. During trading, the stock had made a low of $244.67, which means the stock had fallen 4.19% from the day’s high ($255.38). Currently the market value of the company is 3.03 lakh crore dollars i.e. 265.93 lakh crore rupees.

To introduce this browser, OpenAI had earlier shared a six-second video on X, in which the browser tabs were shown. After this, CEO Sam Altman announced ChatGPT Atlas in a livestream.

Sam Altman also shared the post on social media platform Please give your feedback, it will be available on other platforms also soon.

What is special about ChatGPT Atlas?

Atlas is no ordinary browser. It is built on Chromium technology, just like Google Chrome, but ChatGPT is integrated into every webpage. That means you will not need to switch tabs or copy-paste to ask questions.

Its most special feature is Agent Mode, in which AI can do difficult work by controlling your cursor and keyboard. Like booking flights, doing product research or editing documents. You can just watch it or leave your work and walk away.

Atlas currently available only on macOS

Currently, this feature is only for Plus and Pro subscribers, but basic browser free users can also use it. Atlas is currently available on macOS and mobile and Windows versions will also be coming soon.

Altman said, ‘We believe that AI can completely transform the browser.’ At the time of the launch of Atlas, Altman was accompanied by engineers who had previously created browsers like Chrome and Firefox.

Why was Google affected?

The reason for the impact of the launch of Atlas on Google is that a large part of Google’s income comes from search advertising. But AI-powered browsers and search engines like Atlas are challenging Google’s advertising-based model by providing direct answers. OpenAI already has 800 million weekly ChatGPT users, making Atlas an easy adopter.

What are Google’s preparations?

Google recently integrated Gemini AI into its Chrome browser. Additionally, last month Google was saved from collapse by a court case demanding the separation of its browser.

Now Google’s third quarter earnings results are going to come on October 29 and investors will see whether this AI war is affecting Google’s search business.

What will happen next?

This battle between ChatGPAT Atlas and Google Chrome can bring a big change in the tech world. Where OpenAI is trying to make browsing easier and faster through AI. At the same time, Google is taking every step to save its dominance.
