Nothing Phone 3a Lite Review: Just bling or value for money?

Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite Review: Last month, Nothing launched its entry-level phone (3a) Lite in India at a starting price of Rs 20,999. According to the company, this phone is a combination of unmistakable style, heavy-hitting features, and a seamless software experience at an accessible price. It sounds impressive, but does it perform just as well in the practical world too? Let’s find out in this review.

Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite Review: Price, Colours, Variants

The smartphone is available in two variants: 8+128GB and 8+256GB, priced at Rs 20,999 and Rs 22,999, respectively. Apart from this, the Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite is also available in three colours: Black, White, and Blue. We used the 8+256 variant of the device in the white shade.

Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite Review: Design

Like other Nothing smartphones, the Phone 3(a) Lite also features Nothing’s signature design—a transparent glass back. But if you look closely, you can see that the design inside the glass is a bit simpler/cleaner, with two different textures and a sophisticated battery simulation pattern. The flat glass panels on both sides give the phone a glossy and smudge-resistant appearance. The frame is also flat, but made of plastic with a matte finish.

Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite feels handy and isn’t too heavy. On the right side, the phone houses the power button along with the ‘essential key’, while the volume rockers are located on the left. At the bottom, you’ll find the SIM slot, primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille. The secondary microphone is positioned at the top.

The device comes with an IP54 rating, which indicates decent resistance to dust and mild water splashes.

Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite Review: Display

The Phone (3a) Lite boasts a 6.77-inch flexible AMOLED display, similar to the Nothing Phone (3a). We found that the peak brightness of 3,000 nits performs well in real-world usage. The vibrant colours and deep blacks of the AMOLED display made the content look rich and detailed. We watched content using popular apps like YouTube and Instagram on the device, and the experience was quite good. However, the bezels are big on the display.

Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite Review: Battery

The Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports up to 33W fast wired charging. There’s no charging adapter included in the box, which is a bit disappointing, but you can use any USB-C charger, so it’s not a big problem. We use an 80W SuperVOOC charger, which took about 2 hours to charge the device from 0 to 100 per cent. However, this speed is slower.

Practically, if you use the device vigorously, involving a mix of activities ranging from browsing social media to watching content to making calls or clicking photos, the battery of the device is capable of lasting for around 12-15 hours comfortably, we found.

Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite Review: Camera

The Nothing Phone (3a) Lite boasts a triple-camera system, featuring a 50MP primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. For selfies, it offers a 16MP front-facing sensor.

Photos taken in daylight are pretty average. The detail achieved is mediocre, and the processing often resorts to excessive sharpening to make up for it. However, the main camera captures decent night time photos at its price range. The ultrawide camera takes okayish photos. All in all, the camera of Phone 3(a) Lite is average, but if your main focus is on photos/videos, then this phone will not be that suitable for you.

Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite Review: Performance

The Phone (3a) Lite comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro 5G processor packs an 8-core CPU that clocks in speeds of up to 2.5 GHz, the same as CMF Phone 2 Pro. It runs Android version 15 out of the box, with Nothing OS 3.5 on top.

During testing, the device did not show any lag while multitasking or using multiple apps in the background. There was no noticeable heating problem either. But this device is not for pro gamers for sure, although the experience of light gaming was decent.

It has 8GB of physical RAM and up to 8GB of virtual RAM, which means a total of 16GB of RAM. It also has expandable storage up to 2TB via microSD card.

Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite Review: Things That We Feel Could Have Been Better

To sum up, here are a few things that we feel could have been better:

  • This phone has a basic IP54 rating, while others available at this price have even better ratings.
  • The camera needs improvement. Photo quality is mediocre.
  • Bezels need to be reduced for a better experience
  • The phone has a single speaker.
  • Ultra-fast charging is absent.

Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite: Final Verdict

That is true, the camera quality of Nothing Phone 3(a) Lite is mediocre, and so is the single speaker, but there is a lot to like about this phone – its unique design, bright AMOLED display, good battery life, and especially – the fast and clean Nothing OS. Overall, except for camera lovers, the Nothing Phone 3(A) Lite is at a very good level for an affordable mid-range phone.
