Enough’s enough. It’s time for transparency.

Lewis Hamilton has urged Formula One’s governing body, the FIA, to be more transparent and accountable after questioning the penalty that derailed his Mexico City Grand Prix last month.

The seven-time world champion was hit with a 10-second penalty for cutting across the grass at Turn 4 — a move he claimed was treated inconsistently compared to similar incidents earlier in the race.

“There isn’t any clarity,” said the Ferrari driver ahead of this weekend’s São Paulo Grand Prix. “That’s part of the bigger issue — transparency, accountability, and the secrecy around how decisions are made. It’s something that definitely needs to be tackled.”

Hamilton had qualified third in Mexico and was in contention for his first podium with Ferrari before the penalty dropped him to eighth at the finish. The 39-year-old, still chasing his maiden podium with the Italian team after moving from Mercedes in January, said such calls can have far-reaching effects.

“I don’t know if they’re aware of the weight of their decisions,” he added. “They steer careers and can decide championships, as we’ve seen in the past. Some work needs to be done there.”

Hamilton’s comments reignite a familiar debate over FIA consistency — one that has lingered since his controversial 2021 title defeat, when a late rule change under the safety car in Abu Dhabi cost him an eighth championship.

As Formula One heads into the final stretch of the season, Hamilton, a three-time winner at Interlagos, is still hunting for that elusive first Ferrari podium, while calling for a system that ensures “fairness, clarity, and consistency” across the grid.
