Oppn Demand Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation
The Opposition renewed its “vote chori” charge against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar this week, after The Indian Express reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had flagged issues around vote deletions and additions during the Special Intensive Revision exercise. Congress held nationwide protests demanding Kumar’s resignation, and the Opposition bloc is now planning another impeachment motion against him.
Indian Flag Rising At Asian Games 2026
India’s Asian Games medal tally rose to 23, comprising two gold, nine silver and 12 bronze. Both kabaddi teams have booked their spots in the finals, the women’s hockey team remains unbeaten heading into the semifinals, and squash looks on track to add more medals to the count.
IIT-Bombay Suicide
IIT Bombay has set up a 10-member high-level committee to investigate the alleged suicide of BTech student Sahil Wakodewho was found hanging in his hostel room on September 18, hours after he was allegedly caught using a phone to access ChatGPT during an exam. The panel is likely to question Professor Suryanarayana Doolla, who is an accused in the case, while Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch investigates separately.
Wakode’s parents, Ravindra and Sonali, allege their son faced caste-based discrimination on campus and are demanding a fast-tracked investigation, and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale along with several Opposition leaders have also called for a thorough probe. It’s worth watching whether the panel’s findings align with or diverge from the police investigation.
Xi’s Washington Visit
US President Donald Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington on Thursday for high-profile talks, complete with a runway greeting, a helicopter tour and a bald eagle statue as a gift. Xi again invoked the “Thucydides Trap,” warning against conflict between a rising power and an established one, though there was little movement on core issues like Taiwan or AI. The two leaders also diverged sharply on AI regulation, with Trump describing the technology’s future as “super intelligence.”
Aneet Padda Returns In A Powerful Role
Fresh off Saiyaara, Aneet Padda joins Fatima Sana Shaikh in JioHotstar’s new series Hunkkaar: The Roar. The series centres on sexual abuse allegations made by a young disciple, played by Padda, against a self-styled godman, played by Raghubir Yadav. Padda’s character, Meenu Rawat, is at the heart of the ensemble, with Fatima Shaikh playing the investigating police officer ACP Jasleen Singh Soni, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as advocate Bhalerao, alongside Arjun Mathur and Ram Kapoor.
Meanwhile, Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia’s film The Vvaan, which blends Indian folklore, fantasy and comedy, released in theatres on September 25. The film brings together elements of Indian folklore, fantasy and comedy, with the story attempting to offer audiences a different cinematic experience.
