Nepal Floods Live Updates: The death toll from the catastrophic flash floods that struck the Nepal-Tibet border on Wednesday has risen to 392, with more than 1,400 people still missing as rescuers race to find survivors amid widespread destruction.
Many of those missing are foreign tourists and pilgrims travelling to Mount Kailash. The missing foreigners in Nepal are from more than two dozen countries, including 290 Indian nationals, 63 from the United States, 51 from Malaysia, 34 from Australia, 33 from Britain and 25 from Canada.
The disaster was initially linked to an earthquake, but the US Geological Survey said the seismic signal was generated by a glacial collapse and debris flow.
The danger has not ended. Nepal has warned that a debris-blocked river has created a rising lake that could burst. China has also warned that about 3 million cubic metres of water — roughly 1,200 Olympic-sized swimming pools — could flow into a dammed lake over the next three days, raising the risk of another major surge. More rain is expected to worsen the threat.
