During the NEET-UG 2026 held on Sunday, a case of negligence emerged from Medininagar in the Palamu district of Jharkhand. At one examination centre, many candidates were given question papers in a language different from the one they had selected, creating sudden tension.
An examination centre was set up at Yodh Singh Namdhari Women’s College in Medininagar on Sunday. Initially, everything appeared normal, but as soon as the question papers were distributed, many students realised they had received the wrong language paper.
Candidates who had chosen Hindi medium while filling out the form were handed English medium question papers. This alarmed them, as a change in language makes it difficult to understand the questions and directly affects their performance.
Students Protested, Chaos In Exam Hall
After receiving the wrong paper, students immediately began protesting. The earlier calm in the examination hall turned into noise and chaos. Arguments broke out between students and the centre staff. Students said this negligence had put their hard work and future at risk. Parents waiting outside were also distressed, as they could not get clear information about what was happening inside.
NTA Intervention
As the situation worsened, the local administration was called in. Officials arrived with police personnel and tried to control the situation. The National Testing Agency (NTA) was contacted without delay. Because of the controversy, the exam could not start on time and was postponed for a long period, adding to the students’ stress.
Students took the exam after 6 pm.
After extensive discussions and efforts, a solution was finally reached. Students were given the correct question papers in their chosen language, Hindi. The exam restarted around 6 pm., and the students completed it, though the long delay caused significant mental strain.
Technical Glitch Cited As Reason
Palamu SDM Sulochana Meena clarified that the incident was the result of a technical error: the packet contained question papers in the wrong language. She stated that the issue was resolved in time and that all students eventually took the exam peacefully.
This year, a total of four examination centres were set up in Palamu district. The problem occurred at only one centre. The exams at the other three centres were conducted without any disruption. The district Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police were present on-site and monitored the entire process. The administration has taken this negligence seriously and ordered an investigation to ensure such an error does not occur again.
