NEET UG 2024 Hearing Live Updates: Plea on OMR Sheets to be Heard Today
The Supreme Court had earlier asked NTA to apprise it whether there is any time limit for raising grievances regarding the OMR sheets provided to the candidates who appeared in NEET-UG 2024. A vacation bench of Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti, which issued notice to the NTA on a fresh plea filed by a private coaching centre and few NEET candidates, will hear the petition today, July 8. Senior advocate R Basant, appearing for the coaching institute and the candidates, submitted that a few students, who have appeared for the examination, have not got the OMR sheets.

NEET 2024 Supreme Court Hearing LIVE: NEET PG New Exam Date Announced
NEET PG 2024 was earlier scheduled to be held on June 23. But it was postponed less than 12 hours before the exam was slated to be conducted. It will now be conducted on August 11 in two shifts. According to the notification, the cut-off date for eligibility for appearing in the NEET PG 2024 would remain August 15, 2024. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) rescheduled it as a precautionary measure, it had said. The health ministry had previously stated that it would conduct a thorough examination of the NEET-PG testing processes for medical students, which are being administered by the NBEMS and its technology partner TCS.

The NTA, in its separate affidavit said that the exam was carried out fairly without any “mass malpractice” and that these claims are “completely unfounded, misleading, and lacks any basis.”
”The cancellation of the entire examination on the basis of the aforesaid factor, would be hugely counterproductive and significantly harmful to the larger public interest, especially to the career prospects of the qualified candidates,” the NTA said.
“It is submitted that if the entire examination process is cancelled without there being any tangible factors warranting such actions it would be highly detrimental to the larger public interest involving the academic career of lakhs of students who have attempted the examination fairly without any wrongdoing or even an allegation of wrongdoing,” the NTA added in its affidavit.

Talking about the demand for NEET UG re-exam, the education ministry said, “Scrapping the exam in entirety would seriously jeopardise the lakhs of honest candidates who attempted the question paper in 2024.”
“It is also submitted that at the same time, in the absence of any proof of any large-scale breach of confidentiality in a pan-India examination, it would not be rational to scrap the entire examination and the results already declared,” the Centre said in its preliminary affidavit filed by a director in the ministry of education.
