The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the Postgraduate (PG) medical seat matrix for the 2026–27 academic session, listing medical colleges and institutions, PG courses and the annual intake capacity approved for counselling. The matrix includes around 58,000 MD, MS and postgraduate diploma seats, an increase of 5,827 seats, from 52,173 seats last year.

The NMC has clarified that the published seat matrix is subject to revision based on decisions taken by MARB, the competent Appeal Committee or any other competent authority. Any additional PG courses or seats approved subsequently will be included in an updated seat matrix, which will be published on the official NMC website. The NMC’s latest notice for the 2026–27 PG seat matrix is dated September 29.

The NMC has advised medical colleges, institutions and counselling committees to carefully examine the published seat matrix. Any discrepancy, error, omission or inconsistency should be brought to the notice of MARB for examination and clarification, preferably before the commencement of counselling.

NEET PG 2026 Counselling: PwD Registration From October 1

The release of the seat matrix comes ahead of the NEET PG 2026 counselling process. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is scheduled to open the Round 1 registration portal for candidates with disabilities (PwD) on October 1. The primary medical assessment board for PwD candidates will be available from 5 pm on October 1 to October 9, while the Appellate Medical Assessment Board will conduct assessments from 10 am on October 5 to 5 pm on October 12.

The NEET PG 2026 result was declared on September 24, following the main examination held on August 30 and a re-test conducted on September 5 for affected candidates.

NBEMS has also said that it will provide the question ID numbers, correct answers, candidates’ recorded responses and the scores awarded for each question on or after October 1. Candidates should check the official NBEMS website for details rather than relying on unofficial answer keys.
