Thunder dominate Lakers behind Holmgren and elite defense, while Pistons hold off a Cavs comeback as both teams take 1-0 leads in their NBA playoff series.

The Oklahoma City Thunder sent a clear message in Game 1.
All-round excellence on both sides of the court powered the reigning champions to a 108–90 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, giving them a 1-0 lead in their Western Conference semi-final clash.
The Lakers started bright, but once Oklahoma City found its rhythm, there was no looking back till the very end.
Chet Holmgren led the charge with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Ajay Mitchell chipped in with 18 apiece.
But the real story? Defense.
The Thunder held the Lakers to their lowest playoff score since 2021, underlining just how suffocating they can be on that end.
It also reinforced a worrying trend for Los Angeles — OKC swept them 4-0 in the regular season, winning by an average of nearly 30 points. Game 1 felt like more of the same.
LeBron James, still defying time at 41, led the Lakers with 27 points, while Rui Hachimura added 18. But, a gutless shooting night from Austin Reaves, who put up 8 points on a horror rendered the Lakers’ momentary surges useless.
For the fourth-seeded Lakers, the challenge is now crystal clear: find answers, and quickly.
Pistons Hold Firm, Fend Off Cavs Comeback
Over in the East, the Detroit Pistons made sure their strong postseason run didn’t lose steam.
Led by Cade Cunningham’s 23 points, Detroit held off a late push from the Cleveland Cavaliers to secure a 111–101 win in Game 1 of their semi-final series.
The top-seeded Pistons looked in cruise control early, building a 17-point lead in the third quarter. But Cleveland fought back, trimming the deficit to just four and threatening to flip the script.
Detroit, however, had learned its lessons after battling back from 3-1 down in the previous round, and showed composure down the stretch to close things out.
Six players finished in double figures — with Tobias Harris (20) and Duncan Robinson (19, with five threes) leading the supporting cast.
Donovan Mitchell paced Cleveland with 23 points, while James Harden added 22 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in a losing effort.
With Game 2 still in Detroit, the Pistons will eye to protect home court, and avoid letting this series slip into chaos again.
