The National Conference (NC) on Friday won two of the four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir, with senior leaders Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan and Sajad Kitchloo emerging victorious, while counting continues for the remaining two seats.
Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan secured 58 votes to claim the first seat, defeating BJP’s Ali Mohammad Mir, who received 28 votes, all from his party MLAs. One vote was rejected, and no cross-voting was reported, sources told News18.
Sajad Kitchloo, also from the NC, won the second seat, consolidating the party’s early lead in the Upper House elections.
This marked the first Rajya Sabha election in the Union Territory since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and the subsequent bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories. Voting had taken place earlier inside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly complex.
