Narco-Terror Module Busted In J-K’s Handwara; Father-Son Duo Held

In a major crackdown on narco-terrorist activities, security forces on Thursday busted a module operating in Jammu and Kashmir’s Qalamabad area. Joint teams of Handwara Police and CRPF 162 acted on specific information regarding the presence of commercial-quantity contraband and illegal arms and ammunition.

As per the officials, FIR No. 38/2025 under Section 8/21 NDPS Act, Sections 13, 18, 23, and 39 UA(P) Act, and Section 7/25 Arms Act was registered at Police Station Qalamabad, District Handwara.

Taking to X, the district police shared images and wrote, “HandwaraPolice & CRPF 162 Bn arrested a father–son duo in Qalamabad, recovering 1 pistol, 7 rounds & ~890g heroin-like contraband. FIR 38/2025 registered under NDPS, UA(P) & Arms Act. Investigation continues.”

Two “hybrid terrorists” — Abdul Lateef, 53, and his son, Shahnawaz Khan, 23, residents of Puthwari in Nowgam area of Handwara, were arrested during the joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Notably, the arrested father–son duo was actively involved in running a narco-terror network in the area.

During the search, security forces recovered one pistol with 7 live rounds and heroin-like contraband weighing approximately 890 grams. Further investigation is in progress .
