A 38-year-old woman died during treatment in Nagpur, Maharashtra, after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband during an argument over her decision to attend a dance class instead of preparing food at home. Police have arrested the husband and registered a murder case against him.
The deceased has been identified as Yamini Krishna Lal Yadav, while her husband, 41-year-old Krishna Lal Yadav, has been arrested in connection with the case. The couple has two young children.
Argument Over Cooking Turns Violent
According to police, Krishna Lal returned home from work and asked Yamini to prepare food for him and their children. At the time, Yamini was getting ready to attend a dance class being held in their housing society at Govind City in Sainagar, Jhingabai Takli, within the limits of Mankapur police station.
Yamini reportedly refused to cook, following which an argument broke out between the couple. Police allege that Krishna Lal, who was under the influence of alcohol, assaulted Yamini by hitting her on the neck and abdomen with his hands.
The incident allegedly took place in front of their two children. Police also said that Yamini retaliated during the altercation.
Woman’s Condition Deteriorates
After the alleged assault, Yamini complained of severe pain in her neck and abdomen and asked her husband to get painkillers.
Krishna Lal reportedly went to a nearby medical store, but found it closed and returned home without the medicine.
Yamini’s condition subsequently deteriorated. Her abdomen began swelling, with police later learning that she had suffered serious internal injuries to her intestine.
When her condition became critical, Krishna Lal took her to Max Hospital in Mankapur, where she died while undergoing treatment.
Post-Mortem Reveals Serious Injuries
Initially, Mankapur police registered a case of accidental death and sent Yamini’s body to Mayo Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
However, the autopsy report revealed serious injuries, including a fracture in her neck bone and severe damage to the intestines, which had ruptured.
The findings raised questions about the circumstances surrounding Yamini’s death, prompting police to question her husband.
Brother Says Family Was Unaware of Severity of Disputes
Yamini’s brother said the family initially believed that she had died under tragic circumstances. However, the post-mortem findings, including signs of strangulation and serious abdominal injuries, led police to register an FIR against Krishna Lal.
Speaking to reporters, her brother said the couple had argued on earlier occasions as well. He said Yamini had sometimes told him about their disputes, but had asked the family not to intervene, fearing that doing so would create further problems for her.
The brother said the family had considered the earlier incidents to be ordinary marital disputes and did not realise the situation could escalate to such a level.
Husband Arrested, Murder Case Registered
Following the post-mortem findings, police questioned Krishna Lal about the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death and subsequently arrested him.
He has been booked under Section 302 for murder, and further investigation is underway.
Police are continuing to investigate the events inside the house, the alleged assault and the circumstances that led to Yamini’s death.
