The accident occurred on September 4.
A 20-year-old delivery person died after his two-wheeler was hit from the rear end by a speeding car on the Western Express Highway (WEH) in Bandra West. The Bandra Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 28-year-old Yuvraj Rajkumar Baheti, alleging rash and negligent driving.
According to the FIR, the incident took place at around 10:38 pm on Friday near the SV Road bridge.
RIDER WAS SHIFTED TO BHABHA HOSPITAL
As per the FIR, Bandra Police personnel on night patrol received information from the Main Control Room about an accident in the Bandra West area.
When police reached the spot, they found a man lying unconscious on the road with severe bleeding from his head. A grey two-wheeler was found lying beside him.
The injured rider was shifted to Bhabha Hospital, Bandra West, in a private ambulance for treatment. Police also found a black four-wheeler stationary around 100 feet from the accident spot. When Traffic Police questioned the driver, he allegedly stated that the two-wheeler rider travelling ahead of him had been hit by his vehicle. The driver was subsequently taken into custody for further inquiry.
THE DECEASED RIDER
At around 12:12 am on September 5, police received information that the injured rider had died. The deceased was identified as Shubham Prajapati, 20.
The deceased, Shubham, hails from UP and had come to Mumbai to earn a living. He used to stay in Santacruz with his father and uncle; his rest of the family resides in Uttar Pradesh.
FIR ALLEGES SUV HIT BIKE FROM REAR END
The FIR alleges that Baheti was driving at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner. It further alleges that his car hit the rider from behind, causing serious injuries that ultimately resulted in his death.
Baheti is a resident of a high-end tower in Mahalaxmi in Lower Parel and the son of a businessman. The SUV driver, Yuvaraj Rajkumar Baheti, was arrested by the Bandra police and produced in court the next day, where he was granted bail.
The Bandra Police has registered an FIR under relevant sections: Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 – dangerous driving, Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, Section 281 of the BNS, 2023 rash or negligent driving on a public way.
Police Inspector Vijay Sahebrao Khodake is investigating the case. The FIR has been filed on the statement of police constable Vinayak Ramdas Jaykar, who was on patrol duty when the accident was reported.
Further investigation is underway.
