Government telecom operator Mahanagar Telephone Corporation Limited (MTNL) said on Monday (August 18) that his outstanding debt towards banks has increased to Rs 8,659 crore by 31 July 2025. The company revealed this in the information given to the stock exchange. This amount is more than the arrears of Rs 8,584.93 crore on the previous month i.e. 30 June 2025.

According to the company, the total arrears of Rs 8,659 crore include Rs 7,794.34 crore, the principal and the interest of Rs 864.75 crore. In June, the principal was Rs 7,794.34 crore in the outstanding amount, while the interest was Rs 790.59 crore. In this way, the increase in the outstanding amount is mainly due to the increase in the amount of interest.

  • Union Bank of India: ₹ 3,768.37 crore (Principal: ₹ 3,334.57 crore, Interest: ₹ 433.80 crore)
  • Indian Overseas Bank: ₹ 2,455.01 Crore (Principal: ₹ 2,300 Crore, Interest: ₹ 155.01 Crore)
  • Bank of India: ₹ 1,131.54 crore (Principal: ₹ 999.54 Crore, Interest: ₹ 132 Crore)
  • Punjab National Bank: ₹ 478.26 Crore (Principal: ₹ 432.16 Crore, Interest: ₹ 46.10 Crore)
  • State Bank of India: ₹ 363.43 Crore (Principal: ₹ 313.90 Crore, Interest: ₹ 49.53 Crore)
  • UCO Bank: ₹ 276.08 Crore (Principal: ₹ 245.83 Crore, Interest: ₹ 30.25 Crore)
  • Punjab & Sindh Bank: ₹ 186.40 Crore (Principal: ₹ 168.34 Crore, Interest: ₹ 18.06 Crore)

Company’s total debt ₹ 34,577 crore

MTNL said that by the end of July, its total financial debt was Rs 34,577 crore, which was Rs 34,484 crore in June. This debt includes …

  • Bank loan: ₹ 8,659 crore
  • Sovereign-Granti Bonds: ₹ 24,071 Crore
  • Lone taken from Telecommunication Department (for Bond Interest): ₹ 1,921 Crore

The company’s stock dropped 14% in a month

The company informs the stock exchange about the status of repaying its debt every month under SEBI rules. The latest information has recorded an increase in the company’s outstanding interest.

At the same time, MTNL shares are trading at Rs 43.24 with a rise of 2.08% today. The company’s stock has fallen 14% in a month and 28% in a year. The company’s market cap is 2.72 thousand crores.
