The Meteorological Department on Tuesday has issued a cold wave alert in 10 states including MP-UP, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir. There is an alert of dense fog in 13 states.

Cold wave is affecting 12 districts in Madhya Pradesh. Pachmarhi was the coldest in the state on Monday, the temperature here was 1.9°C. After 53 years, Monday night in December was the coldest in Bhopal at 3.3°C. In 1971 the temperature was recorded at 3.6ºC.

The temperature in Delhi fell below 5.0°C for the fourth time in the month of December. On Monday it was 4.5ºC. Which is 4.1°C above normal. Along with this, there was an effect of cold wave in Delhi. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be cold wave on Tuesday also.

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert of cold wave in Rajasthan. Apart from Fatehpur (Sikar) of Shekhawati, the mercury is expected to be zero or minus in other cities. There is a possibility of reduction in cold after December 20. The minimum temperature recorded in Fatehpur on Monday was -1.0 degree Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Hisar, Haryana was 0.6ºC. The temperature in Narnaul was 1.4ºC. There is a yellow alert of cold wave in 16 districts of the state.

The temperature is also decreasing in Maharashtra and Telangana. Also, there is an effect of cold wave in some districts of these states. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature will decrease rapidly in the coming days.

December 18: Rain in 5 states, cold wave alert in Rajasthan

  • Apart from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, there are chances of rain along with lightning in Kerala.
  • Cold wave will continue in some areas of Rajasthan for the second consecutive day. No increase in temperature is expected.
  • Cold may also increase in North East states. There may be a drop in temperature here.

December 19: Cold wave will not continue in MP, rainy season will continue in southern states.

  • There will be more than 7 cm rainfall along with lightning in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala.
  • Cold wave will prevail in Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi.
  • In the states of South India, wind can blow at a speed of 45 to 55 kilometers per hour.

3 reasons for increasing cold in the plains

  • Cold winds are blowing at a speed of 278 km per hour at a height of 12.6 km in West-North India.
  • Western Disturbance is active. Because of this the ice is melting. Due to this, cold is increasing in the areas of North and Central India.
  • Due to Western Disturbance in Pakistan, there is continuous snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
