MP, SP, DM And CDO Are All IITians In This Uttar Pradesh District – News18

Deoria DM Divya Mittal is an IIT Delhi graduate.

The newly elected Deoria MP, Shashank Mani Tripathi, graduated from IIT Delhi with a B.Tech. He has also worked abroad for many years.

A peculiar coincidence has occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria, the land of Deorha Baba. All the individuals holding the four major posts here are IIT graduates. Shashank Mani Tripathi, who is an IIT graduate, was elected as the MP from here. The SP, DM and CDO in this area are also IIT graduates. Not just in UP, but Deoria is likely the only district in the country where the key positions are held by IITians.

Divya Mittal is the District Magistrate (DM) of Deoria in UP. She was recently posted in the district. Similarly, the Superintendent of Police (SP) here is Sankalp Sharma. The Chief Development Officer (CDO) of this district is Pratyush Pandey.

Deoria’s MP, DM, SP and CDO are all graduates of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The newly elected MP, Shashank Mani Tripathi, graduated from IIT Delhi with a B.Tech. He has also worked abroad for many years. District Magistrate Divya Mittal is also an alumna of IIT Delhi and has studied at IIM Bangalore. She also worked abroad, including in Singapore, but returned to India to prepare for the UPSC and became an IAS officer.

Deoria’s Superintendent of Police, Sankalp Sharma, graduated from IIT Roorkee, while CDO Pratyush Pandey studied at IIT Kanpur. It is indeed a remarkable coincidence that the key positions in a district are held by individuals who have studied at IIT, one of the country’s most prestigious educational institutions.

Cracking both IIT and UPSC is a dream for many students in India. The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is one of the toughest engineering entrance exams in the world. Each year, around 1.5 million students appear for JEE Main, and only about 1,50,000 qualify for JEE Advanced, from which approximately 16,000 are admitted to the IITs.

On the other hand, each year, around 10 lakh candidates apply for the UPSC CSE, and only about 800-1,000 are selected for various civil services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Foreign Service (IFS). The success rate in this examination is less than 0.1%.

Notable IITians who have cracked both exams include Durishetty Anudeep, an IIT Delhi graduate who topped the UPSC CSE in 2017. Others are Satyam Gandhi, an IIT Roorkee graduate who secured AIR 10 in 2020; and Himanshu Kaushik, an IIT Kanpur graduate who cleared the exam on his first attempt, securing AIR 77 in 2017.
