Due to active monsoon trough in the eastern part of Madhya Pradesh, there was heavy rain in Jabalpur, Chambal and Narmadapuram divisions on Sunday. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in 14 districts. There are indications of rain activities moving towards Central and Western Madhya Pradesh till August 24. This means that in the coming days, the effect of rain may increase in other parts of the state also.
Due to continuous rains in UP, the rivers of the state are in spate. 19 districts are in the grip of floods. Crops have been damaged in 92 villages, while 26 villages have been transformed into islands. The roads connecting these villages to other areas have also been submerged.
In Bihar, river Ganga is in spate from Buxar to Bhagalpur. The water level of Ganga has crossed the danger mark at many important places including Gandhi Ghat and Hathidah in Patna. River Ganga in Buxar has crossed the warning label and is nearing the danger mark. Here the water is increasing one centimeter every two hours.
Heavy rain occurred in many parts of Odisha on Sunday due to the influence of the low pressure area formed in the north-west Bay of Bengal. Due to the impact of this system, there is a possibility of heavy rain in many districts of the state till August 26. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for five districts of the state on Monday.
A total of 125 roads are closed in Himachal Pradesh. Maximum 62 roads are closed in Mandi, 31 in Kullu, 10 in Shimla, 8 each in Chamba and Kangra, 4 in Una, 1 each in Bilaspur and Lahaul-Spiti. The Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy rains will continue in the state till August 29.
