Giannis Antetokounmpo marked his return from injury with 29 points — and one windmill dunk that lit a fuse.
Playing his first game since suffering a calf strain on December 3, the Bucks superstar powered Milwaukee to a 112-103 win over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night.
Antetokounmpo finished with 29 points, eight rebounds, a steal and a block as Milwaukee snapped Chicago’s five-game winning streak.
But it was his final two points, not the stat line, that stole the spotlight.
With the game effectively over and Chicago no longer defending, Antetokounmpo crossed midcourt, took off, and hammered home an uncontested windmill dunk as the clock wound down.
The Bulls did not take kindly to it.
Coby White and Nikola Vucevic immediately confronted Antetokounmpo after the final buzzer, triggering a brief on-court skirmish that required coaches to step in. Tempers flared, words were exchanged, and an otherwise routine finish turned heated.
“He shouldn’t have dunked the ball,” White said postgame. “It’s disrespectful to the game. The game’s over. Why do that? It’s about respect — for the opponent and the game itself.”
White downplayed the altercation as a typical NBA flare-up but made clear the dunk crossed a line.
Antetokounmpo, however, was unapologetic.
“We’re 11th in the East,” he said. “We’re fighting for our lives. We’re not the champs. Why should we play the clock out? If we have to get scrappy, so be it.”
The two-time MVP went further, framing the moment as a wake-up call rather than a taunt.
“If we keep losing, half the team might not be here,” Antetokounmpo added. “If a windmill dunk is what wakes everyone up, then so be it.”
Vucevic opted for sarcasm, joking that Giannis might have been motivated by recent trade rumors involving Chicago.
“Usually you dribble it out,” Vucevic said. “Maybe he was mad the Bulls wouldn’t trade for him.”
