An Assam Rifles trooper from Odisha’s Rayagada district died after suffering a bullet injury during operational duties in Nagaland, officials said on Tuesday.

Rifleman V Teja of the 15th Assam Rifles was injured while on duty and was taken to a hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Teja was just two days away from his 31st birthday. According to sources, he was due to get married on December 10.

His death has left his family and colleagues mourning, with condolences also pouring in from political leaders in Odisha.

Leaders Pay Tribute

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief over Teja’s death and praised his service to the country.

“Learning of the untimely demise of Rifleman V Teja, a brave soldier of the 15th Assam Rifles, who was on duty in Nagaland, I am deeply grieved,” Majhi said in a social media post.

He said Teja’s dedication to the country would be remembered and offered condolences to his family.

“In this hour of sorrow, I convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members while praying at the feet of Lord Shri Jagannath for the eternal peace of his immortal soul,” the chief minister added.

Opposition leader and former chief minister Naveen Patnaik also paid tribute to the trooper, calling his sacrifice during security operations in Nagaland a matter of pride for Odisha and the country.

“His courage and valor today fill every Odia, and the entire nation, with pride. He will forever remain immortal, and I convey my deepest condolences to his family,” Patnaik wrote.

Teja’s body is scheduled to reach his native Rayagada on Wednesday, where his last rites are expected to be held.

The circumstances surrounding the bullet injury were not immediately clear. Officials said the incident took place while Teja was carrying out operational duties in Nagaland.
