A 15-year-old girl student sustained serious burn injuries after being allegedly set on fire by three unidentified individuals in the Boiabara area of Odisha’s Puri district on Friday, said officials.
According to local sources, the incident occurred while the girl was walking home from school. Three individuals reportedly approached her and attempted to set her on fire.
Nearby residents intervened quickly, managed to put out the flames, and took the injured to the nearest medical facility for treatment.
The victim is currently under medical care at AIIMS Bhubaneswar and reported to have suffered over 70 per cent burn injuries, according to reports.
The Balanga Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.
As of now, the identity of the accused is not confirmed, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Authorities have stated that further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
