Meta launches personal AI agent Muse: Users aged 18+ will be able to get help with scheduling, shopping-business planning, currently available only in US

Meta on Tuesday launched ‘Muse’, a personal artificial intelligence agent for people aged 18 and above. It will help with everyday tasks like scheduling and shopping. According to Meta, it can also help in converting long-term goals into action plans.

Muse is currently only available in the US. Meta has emphasized on its safety and privacy features. According to the company, this agent runs on a separate and secure virtual machine, in which both the agent and the user’s data remain safe.

Users can talk to Muse on their separate apps or through WhatsApp. It can perform small tasks like sending emails and booking travel. Additionally, it can also work on long-term goals like making a year-long exercise plan or starting a new business.

When the user shares his goal with Muse, it will help him create a personalized plan. After this, it will manage the user’s time and resources and move the work forward.

Meta said in a blog post that Muse can open a browser, fill forms and even negotiate on behalf of the user.

Tech companies are touting AI agents as the next technology after chatbots. Chatbots can answer questions and find information, but they don’t act on the user’s behalf.

How is AI agent different from chatbot?

In its most general form an AI agent works like a traditional computer program. Such a program is created to accomplish a task, such as opening an app.

When combined with AI’s large language models, it can find the information needed to complete a task without having to be instructed every step of the way.

For example, it won’t just help with drafting emails. It can read the colleague’s message and try to understand what the user wants to reply and then send the reply automatically.

Mark Zuckerberg’s AI vision

This agent for Meta is part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s vision of making AI superintelligence available to everyone. He outlined his vision in a 6,500-word essay published online last month.

Critics described this document as full of imagination. Zuckerberg wrote in it that Meta is moving towards an era where every person will have the tools to create new businesses, get help in Ph.D.-level studies and get lifestyle advice according to their needs.

Zuckerberg wrote, “Each person will have a highly capable personal agent who understands you, your goals, and everything that matters to you. Your agent will work on your behalf 24/7 to improve your relationships, health, career, finances, household chores, hobbies, and more.”

He further wrote that this agent will save time for the things people love and help them achieve what they would not have been able to do without it.
