Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has entrusted cabinet minister Krishna Byre Gowda with the crucial responsibility of overseeing Bengaluru’s development.
Gowda has been assigned the newly created Greater Bengaluru Development portfolio, which includes oversight of the Greater Bengaluru Authority, the city’s municipal corporations, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited.
The portfolio was previously handled by Shivakumar during the government led by Siddaramaiah. During that period, Shivakumar championed the ambitious “Brand Bengaluru” initiative and pushed key infrastructure projects, including the proposed tunnel road network and the Sky Deck project.
Thirteen MLAs were sworn in as ministers in Shivakumar’s Cabinet on Wednesday. The ministry is expected to be expanded in the coming weeks, with the Karnataka Council of Ministers permitted to have up to 34 members, including the chief minister. As a result, several cabinet berths remain vacant and are likely to be filled after further consultations within the party.
