As part of the initiative, Maruti Suzuki says its management has directed employees to institutionalise several cost-saving and energy-efficiency measures across operations.
Maruti Suzuki also encouraged employees to adopt sustainable commuting practices such as carpooling and the use of public transport.
Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest carmaker, on Tuesday announced a series of austerity measures, including restricting foreign travel and promoting work from home wherever feasible, in response to rising concerns over the economic impact of the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the company said it has “placed immense importance in the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s clarion call for austerity as well as the need to mitigate the long-term impact of the West Asia war”.

The automaker said the current situation offers an opportunity for companies to improve operational efficiency and reduce unnecessary expenditure, especially on petroleum products and foreign currency outflows.
“This is a timely opportunity to revisit and re-examine all our processes and make efforts to improve efficiency across all our business operations, whether it is for national objectives or our own health of business,” the company said.
Work From Home, Reduced Travel
As part of the initiative, Maruti Suzuki said its management has directed employees to institutionalise several cost-saving and energy-efficiency measures across operations.
The company said work from home will be implemented “wherever operationally feasible” in order to reduce fuel consumption linked to daily commuting. It added that the move is aligned with the company’s existing remote working policy.
Maruti Suzuki has also asked employees to minimise foreign travel unless it is “critical for business requirements”. The company said virtual meetings should be preferred over physical engagements, while domestic travel should also be reduced wherever possible.
Focus on Fuel Saving, Energy Conservation
The company further encouraged employees to adopt sustainable commuting practices such as carpooling and the use of public transport.
It also advised staff and business partners to optimise electricity consumption by limiting the use of air conditioners, lights and fans both at offices and homes.
“These are being widely communicated to both internal employees and business partners,” the company said.
