Kia Motors is about to launch its popular MPV Carens and Carens Clavis in CNG avatar. The company has unveiled these cars at the launch of Kia Sorento. Both the MPVs will soon come in factory fitted CNG avatar.
Both these MPVs of Kia will get 1.5 liter engine with factory fitted CNG kit. A 60 liter CNG tank will be available in the boot of the car. Kia had hinted at entering the CNG market long ago. With this unveil the company has officially entered this segment.
The prices of Kia Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG have not been announced. The company can launch this car before the festivals. The company has not announced the official launch date of the CNG variant, but this car may be launched in late September or early October.
What will be special in the car?
In CNG variants, both the cars will get 1.5 liter four cylinder engine, which will produce 93 HP power and 123 Nm torque. Compared to the petrol version, it will produce 22 HP less power and 21 Nm less torque. Kia has not disclosed the fuel efficiency of the car.

There are speculations that this car will offer a mileage of 22 to 25 kilometers per kilogram. The company says that the engine has been calibrated in such a way that there is no impact on the performance. The 60 liter CNG tank is placed under the boot floor of the car. Due to this the boot space will be less.
Earlier the car had a boot space of 216 litres, which will reduce to 116 liters after the CNG tank. Kia has retuned the suspension and upgraded the front disc brake. Along with this, underbody spare wheel will also be available in the car.

CNG option will be available in HTE and HTE (O) variants of the Carens Clavis. Whereas in old cars, CNG option will be available only in premium variants. Both MPVs will get 16 inch wheels. Keep in mind that cars used to have CNG option, but it was not company fitment but dealer fitment. This car will compete directly with Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6.
