Relentless rainfall has plunged Manipur into crisis, with Wangoi, Mayang Imphal, and several parts of Imphal East and Thoubal districts reeling under severe floods. Overflowing rivers, including the Iril and Imphal, have breached embankments, submerging farmlands, animal farms, and homes, and leaving thousands of residents stranded.
In Wangoi, stagnant waters have swallowed large tracts of paddy fields and animal farms, causing massive losses to farmers and livestock owners. Similar scenes are being reported from Mayang Imphal and adjoining villages, where residents are struggling with rising water levels and prolonged waterlogging.

The capital city has also been hit hard. Roads leading into Imphal remain submerged, cutting off vital access routes for thousands of residents. Although officials confirm that no mass casualties have been reported, one fatality has underlined the severity of the disaster. A 70-year-old man was swept away by the swollen Iril River, prompting fears among the communities living close to overflowing waterways.
Emergency teams, supported by local volunteers, are working round the clock to rescue stranded residents and provide essential supplies. However, with farmland destroyed, livestock lost, and drinking water sources contaminated, authorities admit the scale of the disaster remains overwhelming.
For now, much of the state remains underwater, its people anxiously waiting for stronger government intervention and the eventual retreat of floodwaters.
