A man shared an awkward reunion with his former manager at Bengaluru airport nearly 16 years after leaving his first job, only for the encounter to take an unexpectedly tense turn when he casually brought up an unresolved workplace issue from 2010.
The story, shared on Reddit’s r/IndianWorkplace forum under the title, “My Ex-Manager Remembered Everything Except Accountability,” that led to conversations around office politics, withheld relieving letters, and how some workplace grudges appear to linger for years.
In his detailed post, the man explained that he had joined an MNC in 2008 as a fresh electrical engineering graduate and spent nearly two years there before eventually deciding to quit.
According to him, while he performed well in the role, he grew increasingly frustrated with the “monotonous work,” constant travel to remote sites, and what he described as office favouritism.
He wrote that the decision to resign came during the recession period after he secured selection for a central government scientific role, an opportunity he ultimately decided to pursue.
Recalling the circumstances surrounding his exit, the man said HR had personally discussed his resignation and even asked for honest feedback during his exit interview.
He claimed he openly spoke about the challenges he had faced at work, following which the company agreed to relieve him early instead of making him complete the standard three-month notice period.

According to the post, his manager had promised to issue his relieving letter on his final day at work but never followed through. Despite repeated follow-ups and what the man described as avoidance from the manager, the document never arrived.
Eventually, he said he decided to stop chasing it and instead focus on building his new career.
Fast-forward 16 years, the man unexpectedly crossed paths with the same manager at Bengaluru airport.
He recalled warmly greeting his former boss, who not only recognised him but also appreciated how far he had come professionally over the years. For a brief moment, the encounter appeared cordial and nostalgic.
But things shifted the moment he casually mentioned the missing relieving letter from back in the day.
The man claimed that as soon as he brought up the incident, his former manager’s expression changed instantly. According to him, the senior executive abruptly stood up and walked away without saying another word.
Reflecting on the moment, the man admitted he was genuinely taken aback by the reaction, especially given how much time had passed.
