Mahindra has launched the new Formula E Freedom Edition in its BE 6 Sportec line-up. Its two variants FE and FE Four have been launched in the market.

Whose ex-showroom price has been fixed at ₹ 24.45 lakh and ₹ 26.95 lakh. This new model has been introduced less than a year after the launch of the previous Formula E edition.

1. Change in design: Old aggressive look removed, Sportech like style found

The new Formula E Freedom Edition does not have thin front and rear DRLs, round LED headlights and heavy bumpers like the previous model. Now its look has been kept the same as the standard BE 6 Sportec, which has C-shaped front-rear DRLs and sleek bumpers.

However, to maintain the identity of this Freedom Edition, ‘Formula E’ badging has been given on the front fender. Apart from this, it has been given a new ‘Rosso Impulso’ color option and tricolor i.e. tri color decals on the bodywork. Mahindra has removed the old BE 6 Formula E Edition from its official website.

2. Cabin and dashboard: Dual 12.3-inch screen with ‘Halo’ loop will be available

There are no major changes in the interior layout, but it gets leatherette and suede upholstery with a ‘Firestorm Orange’ color scheme. Features like Formula E Freedom Edition plaque on the dashboard, Formula E decals on the panoramic glass roof and special virtual engine sounds have been added.

This edition has a special ‘halo-like loop’ separating the driver and co-driver on the dashboard. For this reason, only dual 12.3-inch screen setup will be available in Formula E Freedom Edition. It will not have the option of triple-display setup like the standard Sportec variants.

3. Features and Safety: Google Gemini AI, 16-speaker sound system and 540-degree camera

For comfort and safety, it has a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging pad, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and powered driver seat. For safety, it has a 540-degree camera (360 degree + underfloor view) and Level 2 ADAS technology.

Talking about connected car features, it includes Google Gemini integration, in-car gaming and karaoke suites, auto-detecting user profiles and ‘custom’ drive mode.

The Mahindra BE 6 Sportec Formula E Freedom Edition comes only with a 79kWh top-spectrum battery pack and rear-wheel drive (RWD) motor.

Its electric motor generates power of 286hp and torque of 380Nm. Adaptive suspension is also provided in it.

According to MIDC test, its certified range is 683 kilometers. Talking about charging, it supports DC fast charging up to 180kW, which charges the battery from 20 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. At the same time, it takes 8.7 hours and 11.7 hours for 0 to 100 percent full charge with 11.2kW and 7.2kW AC charger respectively.

5. Emergency feature: The car will run even on 0% charge, will get a chance to ‘revive’ 5 times in its entire lifetime.

Mahindra has given an emergency ‘revive’ function in this car. This feature gives some extra range even when the car’s battery is 0 percent charged, so that the driver can reach the nearest charging station.

According to the company, this is an emergency feature and can be used only 5 times in the entire lifetime of the vehicle.

What is a 540-degree camera?

It also shows a 360-degree view as well as an underfloor view, making it easier to spot stones or potholes hidden beneath while off-roading or parking in tight spaces.

What is ‘Revive’ emergency function?

This is a software-based reserve power mode provided in electric vehicles. When the vehicle’s main battery reaches 0%, the system activates the battery’s hidden reserve to allow a few additional kilometers of range.
