A married woman filed a complaint at a police station in Jaipur claiming that her husband has been pressuring her for money and threatened to file for divorce if she did not comply. The woman even said that he has also been neglecting his family’s medical needs and expenses.

The incident came to light when the woman approached the Jaipur Police Commissionerate with a tale of alleged deceit and manipulation. The woman, Pratima Navankur, originally from Maharashtra, arrived in Jaipur in 2020 to attend an event. However, the unexpected lockdown left her stranded. During this time, she found accommodation and joined a local gym where she met Arif Inayat, a gym trainer who she claims ensnared her in a web of deception.

According to Pratima, their relationship led to her conversion and subsequent marriage to Arif. She also claimed that Arif had coerced her into a physical relationship before their marriage, which was formalised on October 18, 2021.

While Arif facilitated Pratima’s conversion, he did not ask her to change her name, a detail Pratima later perceived as a calculated move. She believes this was part of a larger scheme, which came to light when Arif allegedly sold her ancestral property in Mumbai at an undervalued price and started asking her for money.

Currently grappling with dengue fever, Pratima faces further hardship as her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter is also unwell. She said that Arif has abandoned them, neglecting their medical needs and expenses.

Pratima has also reached out to Hawa Mahal MLA Bal Mukundacharya, confiding in him about her ordeal. The MLA accompanied her to the Additional Commissioner, Kunwar Rashtradeep, where she has filed a complaint. Pratima expressed her belief that Arif’s political influence had previously prevented her from registering a complaint at the Shastri Nagar police station.

The police, taking cognisance of Pratima’s complaint, have prioritised her safety and are currently investigating the matter. Unbeknownst to her before the marriage, Arif is allegedly already married with five children.
