A passenger train running between Delhi and Lucknow hit a two-foot-long and six-kilogram piece of wood stuck in the tracks between Malihabad and Kakori railway stations of Uttar Pradesh, forcing the loco pilot to stop the train.
According to sources, the loco pilot of Train No. 14236 Bareilly-Varanasi Express successfully averted the accident, but the train operations remained affected for at least two hours.
Following the incident, station masters issued warnings for both the up and down tracks. Railway and police officials reached the spot and removed the log. They suspect a sabotage attempt and have launched a probe into the matter.
The incident damaged a signalling device on the tracks, which affected the Lucknow-Hardoi up and down lines and prompted loco pilots of other trains to operate with caution.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the Malihabad police station under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The incident comes within a week of gravel and stones being allegedly deliberately placed on the railway tracks near Ullal (Karnataka) by some miscreants, posing a serious risk to trains passing through the area last Sunday.
The stones were found scattered on the railway tracks near Tokkottu about 3 kilometers from Ullal between Kapikad and Ganeshnagar. A loud noise was heard as a train heading towards Kerala passed over the site.
