Reports suggest that 38-year-old Belgian Sebastien Pocognoli who guided Union Saint-Gilloise to the Belgian league title last season could be in line for the job.

Ligue 1 outfit Monaco parted ways with head coach Adi Hutter on Friday after an abysmal run of just a solitary win in five games across competition.

While Monaco hasn’t announced a replacement yet, reports suggest that 38-year-old Belgian Sebastien Pocognoli who guided Union Saint-Gilloise to the Belgian league title last season could be the man for the job.

Hutter led the club to second- and third-place finishes in the league over the past two years, but the club currently sits fifth after seven matches this season and has earned just one point from two Champions League games. This included a 4-1 defeat at Club Brugge and a 2-2 home draw against Manchester City.

“Sometimes destinies will move apart, but I am fine with that. I am leaving behind a quality, well-functioning team with great individuals,” Hutter said. “I wish the management, the players, the staff, and the entire club nothing but the best for the future.”

Eight-time French champion Monaco expressed gratitude towards Adi and his staff for their work and commitment to AS Monaco, and wished them the best for the future.

The 55-year-old Austrian took charge of Monaco two years ago, and his contract was extended to 2027 midway through last season. However, Hutter, who favours an attack-minded approach, struggled to find the right balance last season, and the inconsistency has carried over into this campaign. Monaco has scored the most goals in Ligue 1 with 16, but they also have one of the worst defences, having conceded 12 goals.

Hutter has previously coached in the German Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Before that, he led Red Bull Salzburg to an Austrian league and cup double, and guided Young Boys Bern to the Swiss league title in 2018. Following the international break, Monaco is scheduled to play at Angers next Saturday.
