Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has called for a Tiranga march at Central Park in Connaught Place, Delhi, on October 16, protesting the detention of party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were sent to five days of judicial custody after waving the national flag at Jantar Mantar.
In a video message shared on social media, Dipke appealed to people who take pride in the national flag to join the gathering at 5 pm on October 16. He also urged those unable to travel to Delhi to organise Tiranga marches in their respective cities.
“Since when has waving the Tiranga become a crime?” Dipke asked, reiterating that the national flag was a matter of national pride and that hoisting it should not be treated as an offence.
Dipke Appeals For Tiranga March Across Cities
Calling on people to participate in the proposed gathering, Dipke urged supporters to bring the national flag to Central Park and demonstrate their support for the detained leaders.
He also appealed to people outside Delhi to hold flag marches in their own cities at 5 pm on October 16, saying the demonstrations would send a message that the Tiranga was a symbol of pride and patriotism.
In his video message, Dipke said he was prepared for the possibility of facing arrest himself over the protest but maintained that he would continue to wave the national flag.
“I may also be sent to jail after this, but I am not worried about that. The Tricolour is my pride, and I will continue to wave it,” he said.
CJP Leaders Detained After Jantar Mantar Protest
Dipke’s appeal comes hours after the detention of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were sent to five days of judicial custody following an incident at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
According to reports, the leaders had reached Jantar Mantar despite heavy barricading and a strong security presence and waved the Tricolour there. The party also said that other members of the team, including Ajinkya Shinde, had been detained.
Questioning the police action, Dipke had earlier criticised the detention, asking whether waving the national flag had become a violation of the law.
“Since when has waving the Tricolour become a violation of the law?” he said, according to PTI.
Dipke Calls Detention Unjustified
Dipke described the detention as unjustified and criticised the action against the party members. He also argued that treating the act of waving the national flag as anti-national was wrong.
The proposed October 16 march is expected to be a show of support for the detained leaders, with Dipke appealing to people across the country to participate peacefully and express their support for the national flag.
