Russia has accused the West of pushing for narrower formats within ASEAN to restrain China and Russia. Russian Foreign Minister said that Moscow’s ASEAN partners “understand this perfectly well and have shown interest in Putin’s initiative.” Lavrov made the remarks at a press conference following the Russia-ASEAN meeting in Laos.The Russian top diplomat even claimed Moscow and ASEAN have started preparing a new five-year comprehensive plan on the strategic partnership. Lavrov noted that the talks touched on the need to work out a single security system open to all countries in Eurasia.
