Delhi Police arrested Sameer Modi from the airport as soon as he returned from Europe’s business trip.
Delhi Police arrested Sameer Modi, brother of former Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman Lalit Modi and businessman from Delhi Airport on Thursday evening. Sameer Modi has been accused of continuously rape, blackmailing and cheating by a woman since 2019.
The woman lodged an FIR at New Friends Police Station in Delhi on 10 September. The look-out circular (LOC) was then issued against the businessman. He was taken into custody after returning from Europe’s business trip on Thursday. A Delhi court has sent Sameer to one day police custody.
Meanwhile, Sameer’s lawyer claimed that the allegations against the businessman were false. Advocate Simran Singh said in a statement- FIR is based on false and concocted facts. A case has been filed to make money from Sameer Modi.
There is a case of violation of the players’ bid in the IPL against Sameer Modi’s brother Lalit Modi in the IPL dialect, money laundering and Forex Management Act i.e. FEMA. He was accused of corruption in 2010, after which he escaped and moved to London.
Lalit Modi was the founder, first chairman and league commissioner of the IPL. He organized the tournament from 2008 to 2010.
Woman’s charge- threatened to murder for revealing rape According to the police, the woman alleges that the businessman contacted her in 2019 on the pretext of giving a career opportunity in fashion and lifestyle industry. In December 2019, Sameer called her and forced her at her residence in New Friends Colony.
The woman said that the businessman raped her several times by making false promises of marriage, assaulted and blackmailed. The woman knew that Sameer Modi is already married. He claimed that he and his family were threatened with murder on revealing the rape.
The woman alleged that Sameer used her influence to intimidate her to intimidate and make her silent. The complainant has filed a case against Sameer Modi under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Sameer Modi’s lawyers claim- woman demanded 50 crores On the other hand, a statement issued by Sameer’s lawyers claimed that the woman was in a relationship with Sameer Modi since 2019. According to the claim, on August 8 and 13, Sameer Modi had filed complaints against the woman forcibly recovery and blackmail against different police officers.
Sameer’s lawyers claimed that he also had a WhatsApp chat between businessman and woman, in which he has demanded Rs 50 crore. The lawyers accused the Delhi Police of hasty arrest without investigating the facts.

Why did Lalit Modi run away from India? Lalit Modi was the president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association from 2005 to 2009. In 2008, he started the IPL. BCCI made him the first president and league commissioner of the IPL. In 2010, Lalit was accused of corruption in the IPL.
