Mbappe limped off the pitch towards the end of the game during France’s win over Azerbaijan after picking up a knock on his right ankle.

Franch superstar Kylian Mbappe is set to miss his country’s FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier against Iceland on Monday, due to an injury on his right ankle.
Mbappe, who netted in France’s 3-0 win over Azerbaijan, limped off the pitch towards the end of the game after picking up a knock on the very same leg which he hurt during Real Madrid’s triumph over Villarreal.

France confirmed that its star forward would not travel to Reykjavik and would return to Real Madrid.
After Friday’s game, France coach Didier Deschamps stated that the injury was not serious and that Mbappé had only felt sharp pain after taking a blow to the same ankle.
France, the runner-up at the 2022 World Cup, has started perfectly in the qualification process for the 2026 edition, winning all three of its games in Group D.

France defender Ibrahima Konaté was released from the squad on Saturday and replaced by Marseille’s Benjamin Pavard.
Konaté had been struggling with a minor thigh injury picked up while playing for Liverpool against Chelsea last weekend. He did not play against Azerbaijan. Pavard joined Marseille from Inter Milan in the offseason.
