Kolkata Knight Riders have retired the jersey number 12 of their former all-rounder Andre Russell as a mark of respect. Russell was a part of the team from 2014 to 2025, except for the 2017 season. In November last year, he retired from IPL and is now playing the role of power coach of the team. Played 133 matches for KKR, lasted 11 seasons. Andre Russell’s IPL career mainly revolved around Kolkata Knight Riders. Out of his total 140 IPL matches, he played 133 matches only for KKR. He remained the most important player of the team for 11 seasons. Russell not only made his team win many difficult matches with his batting but also with his death over bowling. Russell was a part of KKR’s title wins twice (2014 and 2024). In 2014, he played only 2 matches, but he played the biggest role in making the team champion in 2024. In that season, Russell scored 222 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 185 and also took 19 wickets. His bowling average was 15.52, which is an excellent figure for any all-rounder. Russell said on coaching – It’s time to give back to the players. Regarding the new role of coach, Russell said, ‘I don’t think there has been any change in my mentality after becoming a coach. It’s like giving something back to the players I have played with and against over the years. It feels good to be back and help these boys. Russell, who is also the face of the global Knight Riders family, is not only associated with IPL’s KKR, but he has also played for other Knight Riders franchises. He was also a part of ‘Abu Dhabi Knight Riders’ in ILT20 and ‘Trinbago Knight Riders’ in CPL. He has played 4-4 seasons for both these teams. Apart from this, he also helped KKR reach the final in the 2014-15 Champions League T-20.
